Few people know that the majority of internet traffic travels on a network under our vast oceans. Because of this, it’s important that our subsea cables are quickly and efficiently carrying data internationally.

Our global underwater network or 350 cables currently carries 99% of the world’s international communication traffic, so the speed is an important factor. With fiber optic technology, data transfer speeds are constantly increasing. Currently, the fastest subsea cable is transferring data at 26.2 terabytes per second!  Future installations of underwater cables will attempt to meet or exceed this speed to keep up with the ever-growing demand for worldwide internet connectivity.
